I'm on a Horse!

Washington State was on fire.  We were there during an unusually hard thunderstorm in Seattle and an unusually sunny hot day in Seattle also.

We stayed with family friends near Chehalis WA. We had a breathtaking view of three volcanoes:  Mt Rainier, Mt Adams and Mt St Helens. We were fortunate enough to be able to see all three before the smoke moved in from East Washington State.

After the smoke began to move in.

We thoroughly enjoyed the hospitality and the view.

Vino and view

During our stay Matthew took a ride through the woods on a beautiful mare. She didn't mind as long as we had carrots and apples.

She turned out to be a real ham for the camera.

After relaxing it was time to hit the road again. We decided to try to get to the base of Mt.St Helens to get what we hoped would be a better view. Alas, the smoke made her barely visible even from the Johnston Ridge Observatory.

Here is what we could see.

She's out there.

Maybe

Oh, there she is.

Almost there

At the Johnston Observatory (as close as you can drive) and still very hazy

Also, we noticed that the trees were out of focus, kinda trippy.

The ride was beautiful. The air was dry and BBQ-ish.

Goodbye Washington, Oregon awaits us.
