How to Re-enter Society

We we're in the wilderness so long (two whole days) that riding back into Fairbanks was a bit of a shock. We stopped at a nice restaurant and everybody was so clean, while we were both still covered with what was now dried mud. Of course the bike was also filthy.  The first order of business is to wash the top layer off of us so we don't track it back into the University dorm room.

She's in her pressure washing zone.
On our last day in Fairbanks we rewarded ourselves with an Alaskan Salmon Bake!  I have 5 words..  all you can eat SALMON.

Touristy?

Yes, but fun and worth it for the "True Alaskan Experience".   They charge per person and you can help yourself to the outdoor buffet until you hate yourself.  The restaurant is attached to the Pioneer Park with features lots of historical exhibits, gift shops and food vendors.

The entrance is a replica of an old mine shaft.

Salmon bliss!

They even have a salmon ride! (I'm not sure if we are fit for public yet.)

Hi-ho Silver Salmon, AWAY!

Of note.. the fish does not move.. just Matthew being silly.

This old 'Hoe' helped to dig the Panama Canal before being sent North to work on the Alaska-Canada Highway.

Still not sure if we're ready for civilization yet.

It's time to head South now that we have made it as far North as we can.   Here are some of the sites along the way to Anchorage.

Heading toward Denali

You just can't make this stuff up.

Along the way there is a great little brewery where we stopped for lunch. The 49th State Brewery also has the bus used for the movie Into the Wild.  The book and movie are about the life of Chris McCandless who lost is life trying to survive in the Alaskan bush.   I highly recommend the book.

Igloo! May have been an old hotel long since abandoned and boarded up. We stopped to stretch and watch a little boy practice wheelies on his motorbike.

We enjoyed to ride through Denali. We did not take the tour of the park but the views from the road are jaw dropping.  Alaska is a beautiful and wild state.

Gearing up for the incoming rain.

Up next, Anchorage!
